Commonhouse Aleworks
About
Commonhouse Aleworks is a brewery in North Charleston’s Park Circle neighborhood, among the earliest planned garden-style communities in the United States. Founders Hank Hanna and Pearce Fleming are longtime friends whose informal “Back Porch Beer” sessions with friends led to the business. The owners describe Commonhouse as a community impact organization as much as a brewery, and a share of proceeds from every beer sold goes to community organizations, with a donation request process for groups working in and around Park Circle. Food comes from Swig & Swine, the Lowcountry barbecue restaurant, which runs its fourth location inside the taproom. Pitmaster and owner Anthony DiBernardo, a Navy veteran who cooked aboard a submarine, oversees a menu of smoked wings, pulled pork, brisket smashburgers, boiled peanut hummus, salads, a kids’ menu and banana pudding.
