Fat Ass Heifer Cidery

Fat Ass Heifer Cidery is a family-owned hard cider maker and tasting room in Campobello, run by Motlow Creek Ranch and Cider Company on a 51-acre ranch. Owner John Macomson began raising cattle in 2004, later took up small-batch cider, founded the company in 2017 and opened the ranch to the public in 2019, and his wife Denise and other relatives help run it. The ciders are pressed and fermented from South Carolina-grown apples using traditional methods, and the list changes often, ranging from dry ciders aged in oak wine or apple brandy barrels to semi-sweet versions flavored with mango, berries, cranberry or lemon and ginger and a honey mead. The name comes from a young heifer in the ranch’s herd of miniature Hereford, Lowline and Angus cattle, an escape artist that earned the nickname during a pasture move. Visitors can stop in for a tasting or a tour.
