The Southern Growl Beer Company

This independent, family-run Greer brewery began in 2014, when Matt and Anna Bowes launched it as a modest taproom focused on good beer and service. It has grown steadily since, adding a scratch kitchen in 2016, moving into a new building in 2019 so it could brew on site, and opening a brewery and patio expansion in 2022. The bar now pours from 70 taps, combining a wide spread of house beers with ciders, wine and house cocktails. Food is designed with beer pairing in mind, and the seasonal menu focuses on made-from-scratch sandwiches, shareables and desserts. Even the bread comes from an in-house bakery that uses flour made from the brewery’s spent grain. Seating spans an indoor dining room, a covered patio served by an outdoor bar, and a big lawn, and the staff is well versed in matching beers with dishes.
