Hilton Head Brewing Company describes itself as the island’s first brewery. It is led by island native Juan Brantley, who entered the restaurant business in 2006; in 2015 he relocated and expanded the brewhouse, and its beers are now sold in restaurants and stores across South Carolina. Head brewer Derek Britton, originally from Minnesota, has more than 15 years of brewing experience, including time at Thomas Creek Brewery in the Upstate, and he added the brewery’s first line of hard seltzers. The tasting room is a relaxed place to watch football on game days, and tours are offered alongside a pint. One pale ale is named for a staff member’s local band. The tap list changes, so calling ahead is the way to find out what is pouring, and the team also helps plan celebrations and events.
