Sumter Original Brewery

Sumter Original Brewery was the first brewery to open in Sumter, and it has become part of the push to grow the city’s downtown. Founder Gray Shuler spent years in the beer industry, touring breweries around the country, before working in downtown restaurants and choosing to build his brewery there. The 30,000-square-foot building rises three stories around a 15-barrel brewhouse that turns out a wide range of styles. Each floor has its own character: the ground floor is set up for watching games, the second floor holds a game room, and the rooftop looks out over downtown. Brewer Jamie, a Navy veteran, is a Cicerone Certified Beer Server with training in traditional German and English styles. A full bar, a limited food menu and house-made sodas round things out. Kids are welcome with an adult, dogs are allowed on the rooftop, and private events can be booked.
